Timothée Turned To Kylie "For Comfort" After Oscars Loss
Here's how a body language expert interprets it.
Throughout awards season, Kylie Jenner has been the ultimate supportive girlfriend to Timothée Chalamet. Whether she’s attending A Complete Unknown’s Berlin premiere on Valentine’s Day or hitting the Golden Globes to cheer him on, Jenner has been sticking by Chalamet’s side to celebrate his success. Though she hasn’t walked the red carpet with her BF (at least, not yet), the duo has not shied away from cozying up together. At the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, Jenner and Chalamet shared several sweet PDA moments — and their body language was pretty steamy.
Jenner was at the Oscars to support Chalamet's best-actor nomination for playing legendary singer Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. During the show, the couple looked very comfortable sitting together, holding hands and even sharing a sweet kiss. Viewers also got a close-up of the couple laughing together when the show’s host, Conan O’Brien, joked about Chalamet’s vibrant yellow Givenchy suit.
Since Jenner and Chalamet started dating in spring 2023, she has accompanied him to plenty of events, though this is their first Oscars date. Fans were not sure if Jenner would attend the show with her beau, considering she missed the Feb. 23 SAG Awards, where Chalamet took home the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. But the Kardashians star arrived right on time in a black Miu Miu dress with cutouts, sitting next to Chalamet throughout the broadcast.
Luckily, awards show photographers caught plenty of cute moments between the duo, who were kissing and sharing romantic looks in their seats. Here’s everything to know about their body language throughout the ceremony, according to an expert.
Kylie & Timothée Shared An Intimate Kiss
Chalamet and Jenner kissed more than once during the Oscars. According to Patti Wood, body language expert, this photographed smooch was telling. “What I like about this photo is that he leaned all the way over towards her,” Wood says. Meanwhile, Jenner had a confident smile on her face.
They Stayed Close While Talking To Others
In another photo, Chalamet and Jenner stood side-by-side while speaking to other Oscar attendees. “They were in the ‘love V,’” Wood says. “That means that they’re pressed together and lined up with their backs touching.”
The meaning behind these type of posture is significant. “It says, ‘We’re a couple. We’re into each other more than we’re into anyone else,’” Wood explains. “He had a little boy smile on his face, so you can tell he is particularly happy. She had a more serene smile, hinting at self-assuredness in the relationship.”
Kylie Comforted Timothée After He Lost
Jenner sat behind Chalamet when the award for best actor was given out. After they announced that Adrien Brody took home the trophy, Chalamet turned to Jenner, and they shared a kiss.
“I like is that he turned to her for comfort. Notice how when he turned back, there was no hesitation. He was absolutely sure that she would be there for him,” Wood explains. “He looked at her with a sad smile on his face, so he felt comfortable enough and vulnerable enough to show her that side of him.”
Jenner reciprocated with a “nice” gesture of comfort. “She hugged and reached for him, then cradled him to her by putting her arms up and around him,” Wood adds.
Timothée Led The Way
During the show, Chalamet and Jenner held hands repeatedly. At one point, the actor led her through the crowd. “This is their baseline of how they move through space,” Wood says. “He is typically a little bit ahead and reaching back for her.”
While Wood typically prefers to see couples move in sync together, she notes that Chalamet taking the lead makes sense considering where they are, a crowded theater. “Notice their interlocked handhold. His hand was holding her hand up,” Wood points out. “That was a signal that he supports her.”
They Had A Sexy Handhold
Jenner and Chalamet were captured staring into each other’s eyes throughout Oscars night. In one clip of the show, Jenner used two hands to hold one of Chalamet’s, stroking his hand softly. “That hand rub was very comforting, and the petting motion showed sexual attraction,” Wood says.
But according to her, there were some moments where Jenner seemed slightly less at ease. “She seemed more restrained than him. In this photo, her body posture was straight up and down — she was not leaning toward him. Chalamet was the one orienting towards her, showing a desire for connection,” she says.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing — or a surprise. The Oscars are more in Chalamet’s comfort zone than Jenner’s, considering he was the nominee. Plus, Jenner is very used to being photographed, so her “pulled back” posture could have been due to her awareness of the camera, not necessarily anything to do with their relationship.
