Miranda Priestly is coming back for another walkthrough. Nearly two decades after the icy fashion editor first stomped the runway, she’s making a long-awaited return in The Devil Wears Prada 2. On July 8, 2024, Variety confirmed Disney is developing a sequel of the beloved couture comedy, and the early reports of what the new movie will be about are pretty eyebrow-raising.

There have been rumors about a potential follow-up to The Devil Wears Prada ever since the movie premiered in 2006, but nothing truly concrete until now. The movie’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is already in talks to pen the new script, and two main cast members are reportedly on board to reprise their roles. And that’ll be important, given the potential story of the sequel.

Early reports claim the movie will center on Miranda Priestly struggling to keep her magazine afloat, and forced to turn to her former assistant Emily Charlton — now a powerful luxury group executive — to try to get her advertising funding. Hm, it sounds like a new devil is in power this time around.

The sequel has now begun production, and a lot of exciting new details have been announced.

6 Characters From The Original Will Be Back

As the plot summary indicates, both Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt will be reprising their roles as cold-blooded fashionistas Miranda and Emily.

Shortly after the initial sequel announcement, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci were also confirmed to reprise their roles as beleaguered assistant Andy Sachs and tart-tongued stylist Nigel Kipling for the upcoming movie.

A couple side characters are also making fashionable returns. Tracie Thoms, who played Andy’s friend Lily in the original, is coming back, as is Runway’s publisher Irv, played by Tibor Feldman.

Tons Of New Faces Will Be In Fashion, Too

The halls of Runway are opening up to several new fashionistas for this sequel. Simone Ashley will be taking over Emily Blunt’s designer shoes to play Miranda’s new assistant. As for the other most important person in Miranda’s life, Kenneth Branagh joins the sequel as the editor’s husband.

Speaking of husbands, both Emily and Andy are also married in the new movie. Justin Theroux has been cast as Emily’s husband, and B.J. Novak joins as Andy’s.

The Runways offices can never have too many busy bees, so helping Ashley out as the new generation of subordinates will be Pauline Chalamet as Emily’s assistant, Caleb Hearon as Andy’s assistant, and Helen J. Shen as Miranda’s second assistant.

The newly announced cast also includes Lucy Liu and Conrad Ricamora, whose roles have yet to be revealed.

The new movie is scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026.
