The White Lotus Coffee Creamer Was A Huge Season 3 Easter Egg
Well, this is dark.
Another group of guests have checked out of The White Lotus once again. Season 3 of the HBO series aired its finale on Sunday, April 6, with a nearly all-new cast (Natasha Rothwell returned as Belinda Lindsey from Season 1, alongside Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa, credited as Lalisa Manobal, among others) and location (Thailand).
Ahead of the season, fans got a taste of the new White Lotus resort with Coffee Mate’s two exclusive flavors — Thai Iced Coffee ($4) and Piña Colada ($4). Looking back now, the latter ended up being a huge Easter egg for the season finale.
The White Lotus Coffee Flavor Was A Season Finale Clue
The limited-edition coffee creamers dropped in January at grocery stores nationwide. I was able to get my hands on them early to see if they were worth adding to the first brew of the day, and while taste-testing them, I was completely unaware that the Piña Colada flavor would have a huge significance in Episode 8. Spoiler alert: This post discusses events from the White Lotus Season 3 finale.
After realizing his family might be losing everything after he was caught in a money-laundering scheme, Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) plotted to kill everyone but his youngest child, Lochlan (Sam Nivola), via murder-suicide using the poisonous fruit mentioned in Episode 1. Using the same blender Saxon had been using all season to make his protein shakes, Timothy ground up the seeds of the fruit from the “suicide tree” to use in post-dinner, celebratory piña coladas.
When I first tried Coffee Mate’s White Lotus-themed creamers, I thought the Piña Colada flavor might be a nod to Season 1’s location in Hawaii. However, after watching the finale, I now realize this was a huge nod to the show’s ending and a slightly morbid Easter egg. Coffee Mate didn’t even know its creamer would have such a significance in the end.
The brand told TMZ it didn’t receive screeners for the finale before creating the two flavors, and a rep shared, “We had no idea the pivotal role it would play!” It seems Coffee Mate isn’t too upset, though, and posted a “well this is awkward” meme to Instagram the day after the last ep. Thankfully, the Ratliff family also survived what might be their last bougie vacation ever and this coffee creamer is just a tasty flavor.
Below are my full reviews of both Season 3 coffee creamers, and how you can enjoy your own White Lotus drinks at all.
The White Lotus Thai Iced Coffee-Flavored Creamer Packs A Punch
A traditional Thai iced coffee is made with a strong brew and sweetened condensed milk. It’s super easy to make with the right ingredients, and even simpler now, thanks to Coffee Mate’s creamer. All you need to do is add some to your home brew.
While it does have “coffee” in the name, this creamer isn’t actually caffeinated. Its main flavor is the sweetened condensed milk, which makes it easy to add to any brew. I tried this with my pumpkin spice blend from Scott Patterson’s brand, and it was even better than a PSL from Starbucks.
This creamer is extra sweet like a Thai iced coffee, so a little goes a long way. If you’re like me, and enjoy the bold taste of your chosen beverage, just add a tiny bit to your drink. You could even use this with some black tea, cardamom, and cloves for a homemade Thai iced tea, or add it to Coke for a dessert-like dirty soda.
The White Lotus Piña Colada-Flavored Creamer Could Pair Well With A Viral Fave
I thought the Piña Colada flavor was a nod to the Hawaiian White Lotus Resort from Season 1, but it actually fits in perfectly with this season (in a dark way). Despite being named after the cocktail, though, this creamer doesn’t have any alcohol in it. However, it still tastes like you’re drinking a poolside pineapple beverage.
I enjoyed this in my coffee. It has a nice pineapple taste, but that might not be what you want in your morning brew. Instead, Coffee Mate recommends using this for a dirty soda, similar to the protein Diet Coke that went viral on TikTok after the release of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. I put this creamer in sparkling water and absolutely loved it. It was such a refreshing and sweet sip. Of course, you could also use it in a protein shake or with coconut milk (that isn’t “off”).
I want to try this with a raspberry or Cherry Coke next for something like the Piña CoLAVA served at any poolside bar at Disney. That might be my go-to bevvy for rewatching The White Lotus as I wait for details about Season 4.
